A large number of Filipinos are catholic and during the Holy Week, devotees commemorate Jesus' death and resurrection. This is year, the Holy Week falls on the last week of March. When I was young, my cousins and I used to watch Bible stories on TV as regular TV shows were on a break. We also used to go to church and see a play called 'Senakulo' showing Jesus' crucifixion. As a kid, I felt scared watching it, but eventually as I grow older I came to understand what really happened. My parents were very strict around this time as we couldn't play and even laugh. We had to be silent and pray all the time. The celebration ends on Easter Sunday where we used to do Easter egg hunting and it was a lot of fun!

Summer in the Philippines
While Japan is in spring mode from March to May, the Philippines experiences the hottest months of the year. When I was a student, schools had a 2-month summer break. I used to go on day trips with my cousins. We used to go to a beach resort or to Tagaytay which is a cool place even in summer. There we used to have picnics and ride bicycles.
