African American Folk Tales
Folk tales from African Americans originated during their time of being enslaved during the 1600s-1900s. There are many reoccurring themes in these stories.
These tales often fall into 7 categories. Tales of origin, tales of trickery and trouble, tales of triumph over evil, comic heartwarming tales, tales of teaching life lessons, tales of ghosts and spirits, and tales of slavery.
These stories gave hope to the people that they could outsmart those who oppressed them and be liberated from slavery
This day in Black history.
On February 11th 1644 the first Black legal protest in America pressed by 11 African Americans occurred.
These people petitioned for freedom in New Netherlands which is now known as New York. New York declared these 11 people to be free since they had served for 18 years and the company had "long since promised their freedom"
On February 11th 1958 Ruth Taylor became the first African American flight attendant in the United States. Her aims were to break the color barrier restricting Black Americans from the job. After joining, others were able to become flight attendants as well.
Many more things happened on this day but we will leave it here.

What's a leap year?
This year is a leap year and that means we get an extra day at the end of February. Instead of 28 days, we have 29!
Why?
Every one knows there are 365.25 days in a year! That .25 adds up, so every four years we gain an extra day for the year!
This extra days helps up stay aligned with the season. What will you do with your extra day?

What is Black History Month?
This is an annual observation based in the United states that has spread to other places such as Canada, Ireland, and the United Kingdom but it has only been around for 54 years.
The significance of Black History Month is to remember the important people and events that were erased or glossed dover in the history of the forced African Diaspora.

The second flower for the month of February is the Primrose.
These flowers bloom early and are known for their bright colors.
They are appreciated for their beauty, symbolism and various uses.
Primroses represent renewal of life, new beginnings and are also believed to bring good luck and protection!
