Meaning: consent reluctantly, submit
Example: Toshi`s mom finally gave in to his request about playing an extra hour on the weekends.


Let`s read this dialogue:
Toshi: Mom, can I play an hour more on the weekends?
Mom: I will only give in to your request if you finish all your homework first.
Toshi: Okay mom. I will finish all my homework before the weekend.
Mom: Please clean your room as well.
Toshi: Got it mom! Thank you!

「わくわくしている！」と伝えたいときには
"I'm excited!"と"I'm exciting!"のどちらが正解でしょうか？

正解は、、、
"I'm excited!"です。

"excited"は「わくわくしているという感情」を表す時に、
"exciting"は「わくわくする物・事」を表す時に使います。

例えば
The concert was exciting! 「コンサート楽しかった！」
のように使います。

Meaning: stop using gradually

Example: Many clerical jobs, such as those in the banking sector, have been phased out by modern information technology.

 

Let`s read this dialogue:

Amy: Did you hear about Sam?

Ken: No, I haven`t. What happened?

Amy: I heard she got laid off from her job at the bank.

Ken: Really? That`s awful!

Amy: It is. Unfortunately the bank is phasing out clerical jobs because they upgraded their systems using a computer application.

Ken: The modern information technology is truly scary. We will never know if our jobs would still exist in the future.

Amy: I couldn`t agree more.
