Hello everyone!

Do you know any festivals happening this month?

One popular festival in Shizuoka Prefecture is called Enshu Hamakita Kiryu Matsuri or
Enshu Hamakita Flying Dragon Festival. It is performed in May or June every year in Hamamatsu City. It runs along Tenryu River in Hamakita District. It is held in honor of the dragon God, Ryujin.
They do various activities such as kite flying, torch parades, and fireworks.

Do you have a favorite festival in May?
We'd love to know!

Mother’s Day

The whole world celebrated Mother's Day last May 14.
It is a special day where we can say thank you to our mothers for always being there for us and for being a great mom.
Some people make letters, give gifts or greet their moms.
I wonder how you celebrated Mother's day.

To practice English when you give gifts this is what you say:
"Hey Mom, I got this for you for Mother's day."

To all the moms, Happy Mother's Day.

A flower that blooms in May : Azalea

Azalea is a funnel-shaped, brightly colored flower. It blooms from April to May.
They are long lasting flowers so they often last for several weeks.
There are a few gardens and shrines in Japan that has azalea flowers.
One of these is the Nezu Shrine in Tokyo.

In the language of flowers, Azalea means prudence. Prudence means care, cautiousness and good judgment.
So when someone is careful before making any decision he/she is excercising prudence.

If you know any flowers, you can talk to the teachers and tell them all about it.

After Golden week

The Golden Week vacation has just ended. Everyone is going back to school and work.
I wonder how everyone spent their vacation. Now that Corona virus restrictions are lifted
people can go back to spending their vacations normally and many people are starting to go on trips
in Japan or abroad. However you spent your vacation I hope you had fun.

To ask someone about their holidays you can use this sentence:

"What did you do during the golden week vacation?"

"I went to Kamakura and saw the big Buddha statue."
