Our Colourful World

Hello everyone!

Let's read this English story about colors.

Our colourful world

Toshi and Yumi decided to go on an adventure. They travelled by spaceship.
They were looking for animals in space.

Yumi saw a planet.
‘Everything on this planet is red. Look at this forest. The trees and leaves are red. There aren’t any animals here.’, Yumi said.

Toshi saw another planet.
‘Everything on this planet is yellow. Look at the yellow sky and the yellow clouds. There is a yellow volcano too. Look at the yellow smoke! There aren’t any animals here though.’, Toshi said.

Yumi saw another planet.
‘Everything on this planet is pink. Look at the pink sea. There are pink shells and pink plants in the sea. There aren’t any animals here though.’, Yumi said.

Toshi saw another planet.
‘Everything on this planet is blue. This planet is very hot. There is a big blue sun and a desert with blue sand. And look! There are blue plants. There aren’t any animals here though.’, Toshi said.

Yumi saw one more planet.
‘Everything on this planet is green. This planet is very cold. The clouds are green and the snow is green. There aren’t any animals though!’, said Yumi.

‘Let’s go home!’, said Toshi.
Toshi and Yumi decided to go home.
They saw another planet. It was planet Earth. The sky was blue and the sun was yellow. The grass was green and the flowers were red and pink.
‘There are lots of animals!’, they both shouted.
At last, they were home.

What colours can you see on Earth? Which colors are your favorite?

World Rhino Day (September 22, 2023)

Hello Everyone!

Let's read about World Rhino Day.

World Rhino Day is celebrated on September 22 every year. World Rhino Day creates an avenue for N.G.O.s, zoos, wildlife conservation centers, research centers, and concerned individuals to unite and seek new ways to improve poaching practices and preserve certain extremely endangered rhinoceros species from total extinction. Over the years, rhinos have been hunted by poachers for their horns and blood, which is used in traditional Asian medicine and believed to contain a cure for cancer, fever, convulsions, and increased male virility. Rhinos are also poached for their perceived value in the exotic markets of Vietnam.

Rhinos are large mammals belonging to the rhinocerotidae family. They have no natural predators except humans. World Rhino Day is the perfect opportunity for us all to stand against the trade of rhino horns and preserve these incredibly magnificent creatures.

5 FASCINATING FACTS ABOUT RHINOS

- Rhinos are partially blind
Rhinos can barely see objects 98 feet away from them.

- Herbivores

- Extremely agile

What are Idioms?
Idioms are expressions that have a meaning that isn’t immediately obvious from the words themselves. Every language has them, and fluent speakers use them casually without even thinking about them. For young students or those learning English as a second language, these phrases can be really confusing; but don't worry let's practice some together!

Let's take a look at today's Idiom:

A fish out of water

Meaning: Someone in an uncomfortable position or situation

Example: It was Toshi’s first day at his new school, and he felt like a fish out of water.

International Literacy Day

Hello everyone!

Let's read about International Literacy Day

Literacy is the ability to read and write. People who can read and write are called literate. People who cannot read or write are illiterate.

International Literacy Day takes place on September 8 every year to raise awareness and concern for literacy problems that exist within our own local communities as well as globally. International Literacy Day was founded by proclamation of The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, or UNESCO, in 1966 “to remind the public of the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights.”

WHEN WAS INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY 2023?
The importance of our basic human rights to literacy was celebrated and observed on International Literacy Day on September 8.

On International Literacy Day, organizations and individuals take charge and use their literacy to encourage and assist those who are facing difficulties on how to read and write. Students and employed people volunteer to tutor children in the community, books are generously donated to libraries, and a student’s tuition and learning are sponsored to launch their life-long success.
