Was 2020 a good year for you?
We all thought that things couldn't possibly get worse, but it did.
We started the year with the Australian bushfires, and then we hear about Covid-19. Millions of confirmed cases and numerous lives lost due to this pandemic. We also had protests all over the world about Black Lives Matter.
Recently, in the US, Biden becomes president-elect.
Bad things, and good things has happened for sure.
We also cannot deny that with this year, we got to know ourselves a lot deeper.
We became aware of our responsibility as citizens of Japan to take care of ourselves and the people around us. We accepted changes that we faced this year.
Although we only had a short lockdown moment, we still followed through, and did our best to stay at home. Even now, we are taking precautions everywhere we go.
I know personally, everyone had their own highlights and low points for 2020.
What were some of your highlights and low points?
What are some activities we can do at home this winter vacation?
This winter vacation, knowing about the situation we are facing in Japan, it is advised to stay at home.
I would like to share some ideas on how you can still enjoy your winter vacation without having to go out.
1. Make yourself (and your family) your own version of homemade HOT CHOCOLATE!
It is quite relaxing having to sip hot chocolate during this cold season.
2. Make a Scrapbook!
I noticed in the bookstores or stationery stores here in Takaoka, we have a lot! I mean, a lot of scrapbooking materials. It just goes to show that people here are using their creativity. And since it is almost the end of the year, it is the best time to reflect on what happened this year. Print some photos that remind you of the greatest or memorable moments in your life this year.
3. Start a Gratitude Journal
I have started doing this. By the end of the day, list down three (or five!) things that you are thankful that happened that day. It could be a little difficult to think of things at first, but please, try your best. Example is 'I got to drink my favorite flavor of coffee today.'
You can also challenge yourself to write them in English!
4. Watch a TV Series
This is my go-to activity when I really have nothing to do and just want to relax. I watch TV series! I enjoy them especially western TV shows. But recently, I am watching anime. I really want to improve my Japanese skills, and I think one way to learn Japanese is to watch and listen well. It is entertaining too!
You can also improve on your English listening skills by watching Western or English TV shows. Let's try it.
5. Work out!
As I typed those words, it made my body shiver. I am not the type to exercise, but my body has been screaming for it to lose some weight! One of the things that I have been ignoring to do this year is working out. Maybe, you too, you have been postponing this. This is the time! I hope to do it soon.
I can write more next time, but for now, this is somethings I would like to share. I hope you try one of these things this vacation.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!

What articles of clothing do people wear to help them stay warm during the winter?
Last summer, we talked about articles of clothing we wear during that season.
I, for one, came from a tropical country, so at first, I didn't know what to wear during this FREEZING SEASON! I would like to share a few things to you.
Now, let's list down top 5 articles of clothing people wear to help them stay warm in this cold season.
First, the main idea is that we use layers! We have three main layers: the base, middle, and outer.
Base layer is usually made out of polyester or other material that can wick sweat away from your skin.
This is the INSULATING layer. Examples of this are sweaters, sweatshirts, and fleece.
It should be SNUG but not TIGHT!
This layer is not much about keeping you warm, but to protect you from wind and rain.
If it is not raining, then a regular winter coat would do fine.
4. ADDITIONAL PROTECTION
When we are outside for a long time, it is best to wear a beanie to protect our head and ears from the cold. Another helpful ones are GLOVES! If you will be using your phone, then make it SMART GLOVES.
Of course, nowadays, we have to wear masks wherever we go! This protects us from the cold and also from COVID-19. It has become a staple in people's outfits and we should always remember to wear one once we go out.
I hope you find this information helpful to you. I know that you are aware of these already, but, it is always good to be reminded sometimes.
So, Keep warm this winter season and take care.
Have a Merry Christmas everyone!
