Earth Day is this month! It is celebrated on April 22nd. Let’s learn about Earth Day and its history today. The first Earth Day in America was celebrated in 1970. U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson organized a day to draw attention and raise awareness about environmental issues such as the negative effects of pollution and overuse of natural resources on the environment. There were special lectures and discussions to encourage people to consider their impacts on our planet Earth. The U.S. government then created the Environmental Protection Agency and now many countries around the world celebrates Earth Day. This day increased public awareness of environmental concerns and respect for the environment. After learning some history of Earth Day, what environment concerns or problems do you want to learn more about?

South African Freedom Day is Approaching!
On the 27th of April this year it is the 30th anniversary of South Africa's first elections for all. We celebrate our rich history and how fortunate we all are to live freely in South Africa.
South Africans mostly spend the day with friends and family having a barbeque; attend a proudly South African festival (Tankwa or Afrikaburn); hang out in Sandton (the Nelson Mandela square boasts a six-meter tall sculpture of Madiba); or enjoy the country’s public gardens (like Kirstenbosch gardens to see our national protea flower and yellowwood tree).
There are many exciting things to do in South African to celebrate our Freedom Day, so what would you choose to do for the South African Freedom Day?
Easter was last Sunday on March 31st. How was your Easter? Did you celebrate it with your family? In America, Easter is a big holiday that is celebrated with many traditions and customs. Let’s learn about these traditions and customs today.
Easter is a Christian holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus. Many people in America go to church services on Easter morning. Families gather in the morning and are dressed in festive spring attire, like pastel colored clothes. They go to church service and enjoy an Easter brunch or lunch afterwards.
Easter egg painting and hunting are very popular among children. Many families would paint boiled eggs and decorate it. With Easter egg hunting, eggs are hidden throughout an area and children would try to find as many Easter eggs as possible. Sometimes the eggs are real. Sometimes the eggs are fake plastic ones that are filled with candy and treats.
The custom of a rabbit or bunny is also popular. It is said that the Easter rabbit decorates and hides the eggs. In America, the Easter rabbit also leaves children baskets with toys and candies on Easter morning. Usually parents would fill baskets full of chocolate, candy, toys and sweet treats to give to their kids and say that it is from the Easter rabbit.
