🤓 Grammar Bits: Irregular Verbs in Simple Past Tense
The simple past form of some verbs does not end in -ed. Such verbs are called irregular verbs.
- The simple past tense of some irregular verbs does not change at all.
For example:
Dad read to us last night.
He shut the door.
Laura cut some papers for her homework earlier.
- Most irregular verbs, however, take a different form in the simple past tense.
For example:
Sam bent the stick in two. (bend to bent)
We sold our car last week. (sell to sold)
Can you try to change the sentence below using the correct irregular verb tense?
He __________ his old car and __________ a new one. (sell/buy)

“The early bird catches the worm.”
It means those who start early or do something early are more likely to succeed. For instance, waking up early to line up and wait at a famous restaurant gives you a higher chance of entering the place and eating their food. So, make sure to be quick and early if you want to be successful.
