Let's read about oceans. 🌊

We call Earth the 'Blue Planet' because the ocean covers about 71 per cent of it! 🌎

Many people wear blue to celebrate World Oceans Day on 8 June every year. This is a special day to learn about oceans, why they are in danger and why it's so important to protect them. 💙


The world has five oceans: the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Southern Ocean and the Arctic Ocean. The Pacific is the biggest – it's bigger than all the land in the world put together. The smallest, the Arctic Ocean, is frozen for a lot of the year. But scientists think that soon much of the ice will disappear because of climate change. 🧊🌊

Without oceans, humans, animals and plants couldn't live. We don't know the exact number, but scientists think that oceans are home to 50–80 per cent of living things on Earth – from enormous whales to tiny fish. Oceans contain about 97 per cent of all the water on Earth. Thanks to the water cycle, oceans give us rainwater and drinking water. And did you know that at least half the oxygen we breathe comes from plants in the ocean? Oceans take in carbon dioxide and give us oxygen. 🌧️🚰

World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, also known as Diversity Day, is celebrated on May 21st every year. 📅 That's today!

It is a day set aside to appreciate the cultural diversities between different countries, states, and people in the World. 🌍

This day is of serious importance as three-quarters of the world’s major conflicts have a cultural dimension. That is a really big slice of the pie being culture-related. ⚖️

This has led to efforts by the United Nations and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to curb this in a bid to achieve one of its major objectives — bringing peace into the World. ☮️

Yesterday was Tulip Day. 🌷🌷

Tulip Day is observed every year on May 13th. It is a day to celebrate tulips, which are brightly-colored, spring-blooming flowers.

Tulips originated in Central Asia, where they grew wild, though cultivation of the flower began in Turkey around 1000 A.D. 🌏

From then on, they became highly prized in the Ottoman Empire, such that they were specially cultivated for the pleasure of the Sultan. 🌍

The flower’s sojourn to Europe took place in the 16th century when they were planted in the Netherlands for medicinal purposes. ⚕️

Today, tulips are still heavily associated with the European country. 🌷🌍

Tulips are versatile and fascinating flowers. With over 3,000 varieties, these vibrant flowers never get old. We love tulips because of their beautiful and elegant look. Tulips are lovely flowers that can brighten up any environment.🌷🌷
