Jamaican Festival
Hello everyone!
I hope you had a wonderful Obon holiday. I am from Jamaica. The month of August is a very historical month for Jamaicans. In this month, we celebrate our emancipation from slavery and our independence as a country. This year, we celebrate 61 years of independence. There are a lot of celebrations and parties throughout the month across the island. The main festival held on August 6th is called the ‘Grand Gala’ with over 30,000 people. At this festival, there are music performances, dance performances, poetry and many more. The show normally closes with a drone display that shows traditional symbols and food followed by fireworks. Traditional foods such as jerk chicken, jerk pork and curried mutton are eaten. It’s a great celebration each year.
Have a wonderful day! Let's enjoy learning English together.
