Halloween Fun Facts 🎃 Jack-o'-lanterns 🎃

🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

According to the History Channel, it all started in an Irish folklore about a man named Stingy Jack who tricked the devil and was cursed to roam the earth having only a hollowed turnip with a burning coal inside to light his path.

At first, the Irish called him "Jack of the Lantern," and later on it changed into "Jack o' Lantern."

In Japan, summer is considered the festival season, but Fall has its share of celebrations around the world, too. Moon Festival, Halloween, and the solstice come to mind, as well as Thanksgiving. But here in Tottori, among the most famous fall celebrations takes place in neighboring Shimane at Izumo Taisha. What fall celebrations does your family enjoy? Halloween will always be my favorite.

Muggy Days

One English word that has often come up in conversation this week is "muggy", because the weather has been so humid! Although a cold front is bringing the promise of Autumn, the humidity sometimes reaches 100% in Yonago. On days like that, students seem sleepier. May everyone get some rest as the seasons change!

A Long Weekend For Most

Though there aren't any long holiday breaks in the autumn, it seems that there are plenty of three-day weekends and holidays unique to Japan during the fall season. In addition, students are currently enjoying school festivals and Field Days, enjoying their youth to the fullest! I hope that everyone finds time to relax during all the bustle, because fall is also the perfect season for introspection.
