Try asking questions about Christmas activities done in the past like this:
'Have you ever been ice skating?'
'Have you ever eaten gingerbread?'
'Have you ever seen a reindeer?'
What have you done in the past during winter?

I asked their mom too, their mom said 'I like to read books.'

小学校高学年の皆さんが取り組んでいるアクティビティーの1つのI SPY。参観日に来ていただいたお母さまたちも、一緒になって熱心に隠れたアイテムを探していました。知らない単語は一緒に調べて、そういう意味もあったのかと新しい発見をされている方もいました。ぜひこれからも新しく知った名前や表現を、おうちで教えてあげてくださいね♪

Parent observation lessons
Over the last week, we have been having parent observation lessons for our elementary school and junior high school students. Some students were a little shy. Even though they are usually talkative and participate in class, they did not want to speak alot in front of their parents. However, most students were really enthusiastic. They wanted to show off their English to their parents. I'm sure their parents are really proud of how much they have improved since parent observation lessons in April. It was really enjoyable to watch parents have fun and practice English with their kids.

My Junior High School students have been learning about giving directions. They learnt words like 'across from', 'diagonally across from', 'to the right off' and ' down the street from'. They used these directions to explain where things are in Tokuyama. One of my students recommended a ramen shop down the street from the post office, across from city hall. I will definitely give it a try!
