Reading With Help From a Translator
Reading with a translator can be a useful practice, but it is important to do it in an effective way. Especially if you are a beginner it is often not as helpful to look up single words as you might think, as you may still not understand the meaning of the entire sentence. It is much more helpful to look up chunks of language that you do not understand like sentences or paragraphs. This way you can draw parallels between your own language and the language you are learning that you can use to help you develop a more concrete understanding of the language before you attempt to read in a foreign language unassisted.

A good way to learn a new language is to read books with pictures in them. If the book has pictures you can use those pictures to help you figure out the language without resorting to translation. When you are just beginning it is hard to find ways to engage with another language without translation so picture books are a great way to do this!
This week is the last lesson of the text book. Lesson 4 is usally a good chance to put everything we've learned from the unit together into a language pattern. The students usually know enough vocabulary words and are able to use their own words to speak their opinion using the language patterns. This is a good chance to use multiple language patterns to have a simple back and forth conversation. Most students are not used to speaking their opinions but with practice and more confidence they can do it.
