Summarizing What You Read
Summarizing what stories and books is an important way to make sure you understand what you read. It is a useful skill that can help with comprehension. The best way to start is to answer the 5 W + 1 H questions: Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How.
Who are the main characters?
What happened? What is the problem?
Where did the action take place?
When did the action take place?
Why did it happen?
Finally, there is one more question that is important to answer in order to fully understand the story:
How did they solve the problem?
Next time you read a book, try to think about these question. Answering these questions will help you to understand the story and test your reading comprehension skills.
