Summer vacation is ending and it's time to go back to school!

In Japan, the school year starts in April, but did you know that in America and in the UK the school year starts in September!
In Japan the school school year starts in April because it allignes with the fiscal year.
So why does it start in September in the west? Well the reason dates back to farming culture.
In British history, many children and teenagers often helped their families with farm work. That meant that in the Summer they were often very busy. Starting school in September meand that students could study a lot during the Autumn and Winter months when there was less farm work, and then they didn't need to go to school during the planting seasons in Spring and Summer.
