Summer in America
Summer in America is very different than summer in Japan.
In America, students have three months off from school. Summer vacation begins at the end of May and finishes at the end of August. However, like Japanese students, American students spend their vacation at home, doing club activities, or traveling.
During the summer, Americans spend a lot of their time outdoors at the lake, at the beach, at the park, or in their backyards. Yards in America are much larger than in Japan. American houses typically have large areas of grass in the front and back of the house. During the summer, a lot of Americans have barbeques in their backyards. Barbeques are different in America too. In America, barbeques are dinners eaten outside where the meat and vegetables are cooked on a large grill. A popular summer dessert is s'mores. S'mores are a sandwich made with toasted marshmallows and chocolate between two cookies. It is very sweet!
A lot of American students spend the summer swimming either in pools, lakes, or at the beach. Swimming is a very popular pastime in America! And lot of students enroll in swimming camps during the summer.
