Poetry is a how we can beautiful things in English or in Japanese.
In Japanese, the most important thing is how many syllables (or 拍 [haku]) are in a line. For example, the haiku features a line of 5 syllables, a line of 7 syllables, and another line of 5 syllables.
In English, however, rhyme is often the most important thing. When two words "rhyme", it means that they end in a similar sound. For example, the words "hat" and "cat" sound alike!
There are a lot of words in Japanese that end in similar sounds, but this is much less common in English.
Until you learn how words sounds, it can be hard to know when two words rhyme, but keep working hard!
And in the meantime, see if you can think of any words that sound "hat" or "cat".
