Last week we looked again at some interesting facts about the English language.
This week let's continue to learn more about this unique language that dominates the world.
1. English originates from northwest Germany and the Netherlands.
2. The phrase 'long time no see' is said to be a direct translation from a Native American or Chinese proverb.
3. The original name for butterfly was flutterby.
4. The letter E makes up 11% of the entire English language.
5. Month, orange, silver, and purple don't rhyme with any words.

Another Summer day, another heat wave!
What are your favorite ways to beat the heat?
Our idiom of the day means: Staying cool and avoiding hot summer temperatures
In South Africa, we play a lot of water sports to beat the heat in Summer.
Laying under a beautiful tree`s shade, kayaking, boat cruise and surfing are other ways to beat the heat!
Do not be afraid, share with your loved ones different tricks to avoid the heat this upcoming summer vacation.

1. More people have learned English as their second language than there are native English speakers in the world
2. A new word is added to a dictionary every two hours
3. The most used words in English- “The” is the most used word in English and “A” is the sixth most common. The most common verb is “to be”
4. The English word that has the most synonyms is “good”- There are an astonishing 380 ways to say “good” in English. Great, amazing, terrific — there are so many of them.
5. Americans revolutionized British English and removed unnecessary letters- Do you remember always confusing writing of the words “color” — “colour”, “favorite” — “favourite”, “program” — “programme”, “catalog” — “catalogue”? This difference in spelling occurred when Americans decided to simplify the spelling of English words and get rid of the letters which you do not pronounce.

The coolest fact about languages by far is that they all have similar forms of speech!
Just like you dear readers, I was quite fascinated to learn of an idiom in another language!
In English this idiom says "Even monkeys fall out of trees"

Fun facts about English that you may not know
There are some things about English that are known worldwide. You must have already heard all about the quick brown fox. Facts like this one can make a language more appealing to its learners and maybe even inspire them to look for more.
Introducing interesting and funny things in class about a language make it easier to learn. That’s why we’ve looked further and tried to find some lesser known facts about the English language. There must be at least one that you’ve never heard before and that’ll really take you by surprise!
1) Shakespeare added over 1500 new words and expressions to English
2) English used to have grammatical gender
