On this day in 1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo between US and Mexico comes into force, giving New Mexico, California and parts of Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and Colorado to the US in return for $15 million! Wow, what a steal! This is some of the best land in world, home to the Grand Canyon National Park, Silicon Valley, and many more!

今は難なく聞き取れる音が、中学生、高校生の頃には３時間、４時間とリスニングに取り組んでようやく聞き分けられるようになることも珍しくありません。
まずは楽しんでリスニングの力を積み重ねていきましょう！
This is an English Idiom that I like to use, when a person says to you "try using the rule of thumb" it means that if a thing doesnt, sound good (pinky finger), look good (ring finger), feel good (middle finger) or smell good (pointer finger) then it isnt good. Try using the rule of thumb with things.

On this day in 1785, Benjamin Franklin announces his invention of bifocals. Wow, truly amazing! Everyone wants to be able to see and read.
Also on this day: In 2000, Eminem releases 3rd studio album "The Marshall Mathers LP", which is the fastest ever selling studio album. He also won a Grammy, (Best Rap Album, 2001).

That's right! It's that time again!
This week's idiom is (Costs an arm and a leg)!
The meaning: Something you want or need to buy is really expensive.
For example:
a) Have you seen the price of fruit lately? It is outrageous!
Yes, they cost an arm and a leg now that the drought has been going on for over a year and we have to import all of our fruit from overseas.
