START WITH A CLEAN SLATE
Meaning: Make a fresh start which is different from how it was before
Example: Last year was not very great. I had so many troubles. I want to start next next year with a clean slate.
TURN OVER A NEW LEAF
Meaning: Change one`s behavior
Example: I am going to turn over a new leaf next year. I am going to eat less fatty foods and start exercising.

A New Year’s resolution is a promise people make to themselves at the beginning of the year, especially on New Year`s Day.
The goal is to keep this promise throughout the whole of the year.
New Year Resolutions can either be trying something new (ex. jogging, going to the gym, learning a new language or skill) or trying to stop a bad habit (ex. Less TV, less eating junk food or less spending money).

Wearing white on New Year’s Eve has been a tradition in Africa which symbolizes peace and spiritual cleansing. In Brazil, the Festa de Lemanjá takes place on this night to celebrate the goddess of the sea. Everyone is dressed in white and runs into the water right at midnight to jump over seven waves.
