暑い時に食べたいかき氷！水分補給や暑さを和らげるのにも役立ちます。かき氷は英語で「shaved ice/snow cone」と表現します。shaveは削るという意味、snowは雪、coneは円錐形を意味します。英語ではsyrup（シロップ）ではなくflavor（味）を使います。お祭りなどへ行ってかき氷を食べたくなったら「I want to eat strawberry flavor shaved ice! 」とおねだりしてみましょう！
August Traditions in Japan and the Philippines
August is a month rich in cultural traditions in both Japan and the Philippines, each country celebrating in its unique way.
In Japan, August brings the Obon Festival, a time to honor ancestors' spirits. Families gather to clean graves, offer food, and dance in lively Bon Odori festivals. Another significant event is the Tanabata Festival, where people write wishes on colorful paper and hang them on bamboo, hoping they'll come true under the starry night sky.
Meanwhile, in the Philippines, August is eagerly anticipated for the Kadayawan Festival in Davao City, celebrating the harvest and diverse cultures through street dancing, floral floats, and food festivities. It's a time for communities to come together, showcasing their traditions and sharing their bounty.
Despite their geographical distance, both countries use August to strengthen bonds, celebrate heritage, and create cherished memories that endure beyond the month's festivities.

毎日暑いですね。今年の夏は特に暑いのでひょっとすると図書館などの涼しい場所に行って宿題や勉強をしているお子さんもいるかもしれません。

毎日暑い日が続いていますね。アミティーのレッスンではお天気も学習しますが、皆さんが良く使う「It is sunny and hot.」では最近のお天気には少し弱い表現かもしれません。例えばscorching hot（焼ける様にあつい）boiling hot（茹だる様に暑い）や、intense heat/severe heat/extremery hot（猛暑）を使って表現する事が出来ます。It's extremery hot this summer, but please enjoy your summer vacation!

Summer Festivities and Tradition
