Today we are going to talk about articulation!

Articulation is a technique to help improve pronunciation. Native English speakers practice articulation at school. It is very important for improving your speaking and audibility.

What is articulation?

Articulation is when you emphasize a sound or sounds in a word by forced mouth and/or tongue movements. For example the word "hard". Emphasizing the d will make it sound like "harduh". It is great for improving weaknesses in speech, such as the tendency of Japanese people to not pronounce the s when it comes at the end of a word.

Articulation also has to do with how you move your mouth. You exaggerate your mouth movement to exercise the muscles in your face. This makes it easier to become accustomed to moving your mouth in a way that is consistent with the way that native speakers move their mouths. Your pronunciation will greatly improve as your mouth and tongue will be moving in the correct way when you practice articulation.

Articulated words are easier to remember as well. This is because there is more activity in your brain and in your face when practicing articulation which helps with recall.

Try practicing your articulation! It will greatly improve your English!
