🎆New Year Celebrations in Canada 🎆

In Canada, New Years is a grand celebration! Students tend to be off school starting from a couple days before Christmas and will return a couple days after New Years. This break, usually called Christmas/New Years Vacation, is a time when many people enjoy making special dinners, creating New Year's resolutions, and lighting fire works and sparklers.
🍲It is common to have dinner parties or potlucks and bond over yummy food. At these parties, people like to spend time with each other to celebrate the year that has passed, the accomplishments one has achieved, and share well wishes for the upcoming year. Common Christmas foods include ham and mashed potatoes. Popular Christmas sweets include gingerbread houses/gingerbread men and eggnog. Kids enjoy decorating gingerbread houses and gingerbread men with candy, chocolate, and frosting, then eating it all when it's done!
📋The break from work and school offers the perfect opportunity to spend time with friends and family who many might not have had the opportunity to meet with due to busy schedules. It is also a great time to reflect upon the year that has passed, and to create a list of goals for the upcoming year. These goals, called New Year's Resolutions, help people plan on ways to grow and improve themselves. These goals can encompass a wide range of topics, from personal growth, educational growth, or career growth. For example, many people will have plans to exercise more, get accepted into a good university, or get a promotion from work. What will be on your New Year's resolution list for 2025?
🎆Lasty, we can't forget the fireworks! Many cities hold firework shows for people to enjoy at parks or large open areas. Even though it is very cold (and very snowy!), people like bundling up in many layers and bringing blankets and chairs to sit outside with friends and family to enjoy the fireworks. Usually there is a big countdown, counting down the seconds until it hits 12:00AM on January 1st. Right as the new year arrives, the firework show will start! On a smaller scale, some people also enjoy lighting sparklers or smaller fireworks from their backyards! This beautiful display is the perfect way to welcome the New Year!
