In our P5 classes this week we are learning about the letters -tion. This set of letters can be very tricky because they are not pronouced how they look.
-tion makes a -shin sound!
Our P5 classes have been doing a great job thinking of various words that meet our phonics sounds that are outside of the words we teach during the lesson. But seeing as how these letters are on the more difficult side, think of some words at home that end in -tion and sound like -shin, and be prepared to share them in class! We look forward to seeing what you can think of!

P7 - Asking for favors | 頼みごとをする

In our P7 classes this week we are learning how to ask for favors from people. This is something very important to learn when speaking English so let's practice!
Our first language pattern this week was:
- If you help me with memorizing my lines, I will help you change the bedsheets.
- All right. Sounds like a deal./No thanks. I'll pass.
Asking for a favor in exchange for doing the other person a favor is nice and all, but if what you are offering to help with isn't as difficult as what you need help with, the other person may say no. For example, think of something you currently need help with, maybe math homework or memorizing English vocabulary, these things can be quite difficult, so if you are offering to help someone peel vegetables or sweep the floor in exchange for their help, things might not go how you hope.
Our second language pattern this week is:
- If you could put the laundry away for me, that would be great.
- Sure thing!/Sorry, I don't think I have time to do that.
This is the most common way to ask for favors in English, so I really recommend practicing this phrase and use it next time you would like someone to do something for you.

In our P2 classes this week we are talking about the fruits and vegetables we learned in our previous lessons this unit, but now we are adding colors! We are focusing on describing which fruits and vegetables are what colors! This can be a little challenging as the sentence we are learning uses two different vocabulary words with the word "are" in between. Sometimes young students struggle with these types of sentences so lets go over a good way to practice!
Our sentences for this lesson are:
- What color are cucumbers?
- Cucumbers are green.
A good way to practice this is practicing with things you commonly use around the house.
Example:
- What color are your shoes?
- My shoes are pink.
- What color are moms shoes?
- Moms shoes are red.
Many children when you ask what color things are, will simply say the color, encouraging the full sentence is key to mastering this language pattern! You can do it!

In our P1 class this week and last week we are learning about things we find on our kitchen tables. We are learning the words spoon, fork, knife, plate and cup, and this week we are focusing on counting those things! This lesson is very easy to practice at home, since it is all about things we use at meal times.
Think about your own kitchen table, how many plates are there? How many cups? Practice counting the utensiles on your own kitchen table in English!

In our P5 classes this unit, we have been focusing on various locations around a town as well as what you do at those locations.
For example:
- Where is he going?
- He is going to the gym to work out.
Think about places you often go, like school or the grocery store. What do you do at those places? Do you study? Do you buy snacks? Applying what you learn in class to your own life can really help you better remember your lessons and the sentences you learn. Try practing at home!

In our P4 lessons this week we are learning how to speak about people in the past tense. This can be a tricky concept to understand and remember so lets practice!

When we are talking about one single person in the past, we use was.

When we are talking about more than one person in the past, we use were.
Example:

They were shy.
